1. AB has been extended in two directions so that it meets at D and F
the extensions made
to two sides of the five-inch square.
Outcomes

1. DE is 11 2/3 inches, the ancient Egyptian "forearm" measure which later became the
Roman foot. This measure was the equivalent of 16 remen digits.

2. DF is 14 7/12 inches (14.58333 ... as seen on a calculator display screen), the ancient
Egyptian remen measure. The remen had 20 digit divisions.

3. FE is 8.75 inches, half a Roman cubit of 17.5 inches.
